JUNKMARKET…Create Your Own Style, One Piece of Junk at a Time
Sue Whitney of JUNKMARKET, JUNKMARKET Style, and most recently GETFRESH Vintage is the nation’s industry leader in “junk” and “vintage” style. She has authored 3 books, 2 magazines, is currently a contributor for Better Homes and Gardens Country Gardens, and is the most highly respected national speaker in her genre. What is her style? The world is ever changing…JUNKMARKET stays abreast of those changes and offers fresh, innovative, and approachable concepts for you and your home. From the beginning (over twelve years ago) the original JUNKMASTER had a vision: to pursue her passion and share it with others. That’s something she will never transform. Among other things, Sue will be presenting on the main stage. Let her show you how to entertain, JUNKMARKET Style! The entire dining experience will be created of finds from Vintage Marketplace. Sue believes that spontaneity is a key ingredient to great design. You may just want to follow her around while she shops and learn how it’s done first hand!

Carter Seibels and husband Aveesh Singh have been in the bead business for a combined total of 30 years.  Though their love of beads has never faded, the exhaustion and over-saturation of the market encouraged them to travel other paths.  When Aveesh, who is from India, took Carter on her first buying trip to India 2 years ago, their whole world changed!  Carter started filling her suitcases with colorful finds, both vintage and new.  She found all of these fabulous items that she needed to bring home and share with the US market (sari borders, harem pants, beaded slippers, to name a few).  Slowly the pair started growing their offerings, to include antique and vintage African textiles, more handicrafts from India and Nepal, Thai clothing, shoes, and accessories, and more.  And of course there is always a huge selection of vintage and antique African beads!
This pair will share their travel experiences and a whole lot more with you. Please join this delightful couple and learn a little about layering your life with pieces from faraway lands.
3 PM to 4 PM: A Dining Experience JUNKMARKET Style with Sue Whitney

Sue Whitney of JUNKMARKET Style has agreed to take the challenge. She’ll create a one-of-a kind fall dining experience out of finds harvested from all the fine dealers of Vintage Marketplace and Springfield Extravaganza. Can’t really tell you much more than that because she’ll be working with what she uncovers. There is one thing we can tell you for sure…it WILL be stunning! Please be our guests at the main stage for an interactive demonstration on how to put together an entire look out of one shopping experience. Look for Sue on Friday and Saturday as she hunts and gathers and make sure to say hi if you spot her!! Be careful though….she may want you to carry something heavy back to her tent! She’s just that way…

4 PM to 8 PM: Music and a Par-tay!
Whoa doggies…now here’s something to shout about. We have a band….and it’s a big one!! The fabulous BBI will be in the house just for you. This is a free performance with your paid admission. Beer and food will be available for purchase during the concert.
A little about BBI:

BBI has transcended the test of time and become an entertainment phenomenon!

Energizing audiences around the globe with their universal crowd appeal. BBI is unparalleled by any other regional band.
BBI possesses an ebullient live spirit that cuts across ages, races, backgrounds. It’s not just the accolades of great songs, and unforgettable stage show, and being well dressed that have elevated BBI to superior status. BBI connects with their audience in the most fundamental way: inspiring audiences to have fun!

To go along with the ab fab music…we have some celebrating to do! It’s somebody’s birthday. Our very own Sue Whitney will be celebrating her 29th birthday one more time! Anyone who wishes to celebrate their own 29th birthday right along with Sue, you’re invited to do so. The more the merrier! I think I remember seeing something on Facebook about birthday beardos? We’ll have to see how the evening unfolds!

Gypsy Temple/Woman Shops World at Vintage Marketplace

They now offer dog leashes handmade from recliamed saris, that give Nepalese women fair wages and independence. Embroidered garden and sun umbrellas from Rajasthan india, vintage Kantha quilts and bags made from vintage Indian fabrics.  Decorations from camels (pom-poms, camel blankets, their neck and ankle bells).

The response to these worldly goods has been overwhelming!  Aveesh and Carter are overjoyed at their customers' fascination with all of their colorful finds.  The two are having so much fun sharing all of their global treasures, they can hardly stop long enough to take the next big buying trip!
It's a world of handmade fabulousness, all under one BIG tent!

Anita Hopper of ReFind Originals to Share her Talents at Vintage Marketplace!

Hi all!!! Vintage Marketplace at the Springfield, Ohio Extravaganza is just around the corner and we're getting geared up and ready to go. Many of the same fine vendors will be returning along with some all new ab fab dealers. Anita Hopper of ReFind Originals is one of them and I'd like you to know more about this very creative lady. I think you'll love her as much as I do!!

Anita grew up on an Indiana farm, where she lived in the house that her great great grandfather built. She listened to stories of how their ancestors from England settled in the area and even saw the spot in the woods where the bricks for their home were made by hand. She always had access to all the "junk" that had accumulated throughout the several generations that had lived there and  that is what sparked the enthusiasm that she has as an adult to protect and use things that others might throw away, and even to see the beauty in a rusty old plow shear. She is somewhat bored by the shiny and new, and delights in an object that has developed patina over time. Anita says... "These days, as I see my own "patina" developing, I'm learning to value "old things" even more!" What a funny girl!!!

A few years ago as she was perusing a thrift store, and an old bomber jacket  jumped off the rack into her arms. Ah, a woman after my own heart. Junk is always jumping into my arms too so I totally understand the feeling!!! Her first thought was that it was exactly how she would want her handbag to look and feel, all buttery soft and worn with lots of character.  Her second thought was "Hmmm...I wonder if I could make a bag out of that".  She had been sewing for most of her life, but had never even come close to making a bag out of a worn leather jacket. Long story short. Yes!  She COULD make a bag out of a leather jacket! And, guess what? Others wanted to buy them!

Now, six years later, she has made several thousand bags and other accessories from discarded leather, and ReFind Originals has become a growing business that not only brings joy to herself, but also to her creative helpers, who she could no longer do this business without!  Anita loves to see  customers' eyes light up when they walk into their booth and she tells them what all these lovely things are made of!  It really is a win/ win situation where they are saving as many leather garments from the landfill as they can, using their creative talents in ways they never thought possible, and providing extra income for those who are now helping to make ReFind Originals a growing business. She simply marvels at all she has learned in the past 6 years about having my her creative business, and she truly looks forward to getting up every morning before the crack of dawn to meet the challenges of each day. Enjoy the images of her one-of-a-kind creations and visit her website for additional information!

Anita is an amazing woman with a wonderful story. Her handbags are truly a reflection of of her beautiful spirit. Please make sure to visit Anita while shopping at Vintage Marketplace. You will be ever so happy you did!!!

Donna Rugenstein, AKA Re-Designing Hussy

I had the pleasure of speaking with Donna Rugenstein this morning. Wow! Talk about multi-talented. She’s a welder, woodworker, custom embroiderer and a mural artist. In her former life, prior to starting her business, Re-Designing Husseys, www.redehussy.com, she was a university dean and professor. She now prefers a simpler life, working from her barn on 10 acres in Pendelton, Indiana. She described her business in a recent email. “I was the original trash to treasures girl, creating one of a kind pieces from discarded items. Painting murals on furniture and in homes was an extension of this creativity; a passion that was developed into an arts~antiques ‘Shoppe’ named Whimzy. My mural partner Sharon and I are now joining our unique talents to bring you Re-Designing Hussy’s (AKA the original Picker Sisters). Re-Designing Hussy’s was created to showcase unique finds and custom designs meant to inspire. We focus on helping you to create your environment by combining welding, woodworking, custom embroidery and antiquities”.
