C’est Fantastique. C’est Moi and Annie Sloan Chalk Paints

And the news about the Vintage Marketplace just keeps on getting better. I think it’s safe to assume that most of our readers know about Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. If not, you really have to do a search on it or, better yet, just ask your friends who love Vintage. So here’s the exciting news: Tawnya Norton, of C’est Moi, in Brentwood, TN shopcestmoi.blogspot.com is not only going to be a vendor at the Vintage Marketplace, she’s bringing Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and will be doing demos during the show. But wait… There’s one more surprise. The VintageMarketplace will hold a drawing for a ticket to Annie Sloan’s one-day-only, Nashville workshop on March 26th. Nashville is one of only eight locations in the U.S. in which Annie will conduct her, “Annie Sloan Unfolded" workshops. This will be a full day with Annie Sloan, in person, beginning with a two hour lecture and demo followed by a breakout session with hands on painting. We want to thank Tawnya for her generous donation of this ticket, valued at $350. Stop by C’est Moi’s booth at the Vintage Marketplace this February 2-4, to meet Tawnya, pick up your Annie Sloan Paints and register to win this amazing opportunity to spend a day learning directly from Annie Sloan.

Birds Gotta Fly...South, to Nashville

I’ve been in contact with Judith Mercado, BloomsburyLoft.blogspot.com , several times over the past few weeks and I’ve enjoyed getting to know a bit about her. Like all of us, she’s excited about the upcoming Vintage Marketplace and she’s working hard to get ready for the show.
Judith has been in the Vintage business for twelve years. She’s schooled in jewelry design, has been an interior designer by trade and was formerly employed as a Visual Merchandiser for several major department stores. She is, however, at heart an artistic, free spirit and, you know what they say…birds gotta fly. So, she went out, on her own, and started her retail business, Bloomsbury Loft. She loves the creative freedom and independence of being self employed and has never looked back. In a recent email this is how she described her unique perspective and creative approach to Vintage.
“My merchandise is a mix of fine handmades like jewelry, pillows, wreaths made using repurposed knits and wall decor with vintage furniture and trendy finds. My handmades are made using old and new materials. My aesthetics of choice are layers of patterns and contrast of light and dark colors dancing together. When designing linens I love mixing geometric patterns, vintage florals and oversized graphics. My jewelry line is romantic but edgy and when choosing vintage pieces and found objects I am drawn by a mix of industrial and classic furniture, but also incorporating bits of traditional antiques. In other words my style is defined by the perfect imperfection, unmatched, comfortable and fresh!”.
Can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the premier of the Vintage Marketplace. Just 15 days left to wait!

Through the Eye of an Artist

I guess it was last week that I spoke with Jackie of Shambora Studios in Noblesville, Indiana shamborastudios.blogspot.com but, it sure feels like it was only yesterday. I think time gets away from most of us during this busy holiday season. Jackie will be doing our Vintage Marketplace show at the Hendersonville Expo Center this February 2nd-4th and we couldn’t be more pleased about it. Many of you may know her from her shop in Noblesville, Indiana or from shows she does in and around Indianapolis or Chicago. And, if you don’t know her, you’ve got to meet her at the Vintage Marketplace. She’s a very interesting and talented lady, not to mention, a very busy lady as well.
In Jackie’s earlier days she worked in Visual Merchandising for a major department store. One look at her creations and the beautiful way in which she displays her inventory and you’ll see that she’s put her early training to good use. She has also been an exhibitor at some very prestigious, juried art shows in Indiana. Jackie says she has, “always had a passion for Vintage”. Her signature look has what she calls a “Nordic-French twist”. Make sure you check out her blog. It’s really gorgeous. I can’t wait to see what she does with her booth at the Vintage Marketplace.

“Not Your Grandmother’s Rhinestones”

That’s how Ericka Cady, Imakdee.blogspot.com , described her unique style of recreated vintage jewelry to me this morning. Her business is called Imakdee’s Recycled Recreations. So, are you wondering about the name? I did too. Turns out, her married name is Cady, which folks usually pronounced “Caddy”. To clarify matters, soon after taking her husband’s name, she changed her internet moniker to “Imakdee” (I’m a Cady). Problem solved.
Ericka is an interesting woman who, in her former life, worked for the federal government, in a position which allowed for zero creativity…so frustrating. When her position was relocated to Washington D.C., she chose to remain in Westerville, OH. That’s when her passion became her full time business. She’s had a long-standing love for vintage jewelry and has been a collector for many years. About ten years ago she started to take pieces from her collection and “switch them up” by reconfiguring some of the elements of different pieces. She said her pieces usually appeal to “younger people who like cooler, funkier things”. Friends and co-workers loved what she was doing and asked her to recreate some of their family pieces in order to give them a more updated look. And, the rest is history.
Like me, Ericka says she’s getting pretty excited about the upcoming Vintage Marketplace this February 2nd-4th. It’s sort of like a second Christmas for us. We’re counting down the days.
